Paul Stanko hails from the mountains of Colorado, but holds his degree in theater from the University of Southern California. Along with playing Derek Suntila in “Superior”, he has found success in several independent feature films, network television (ABC Family, Lifetime), live theater, and online media. This year, Paul can be seen starring in a Dorothy Parker stage play at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, in the upcoming web-serial “Dick Hopper, Private Eye”, and as Remus Lupin in “Severus Snape and the Marauders”. In Los Angeles, Paul is an improviser, and has performed mainstage at ComedySportz, Second City, and iO West.



Thatcher Robinson is an actor best known for playing the large supporting role of Jason in Erik Peter Carlson’s feature film The Toy Soldiers, which was the closing night film at the 2014 Dances With Films festival. He has his first feature film leading role in Edd Benda’s 2015 film Superior, playing the character of Charlie. He has also appeared in numerous short films since graduating from the University of Southern California’s Theatre program in 2012. He now studies year-round with acting teacher Joe Anthony in Studio City.

Edd Benda makes up half of the Beyond the Porch production tandem along with Alex Bell. While mainly a Michigan native, Edd also spent time living in Germany, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, and most recently California. Much like the rest of the Superior team, Edd attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts where he focused on directing under instruction from notable directors Barnet Kellman, Peter Sollett, and Jennifer Warren among many others. Edd comes from a massive midwestern family,
and he found his calling as a filmmaker around the family dining room table where storytelling reigned supreme. Edd recently directed the acclaimed short film “The Hipster Werewolf”, which played at festivals around the country including HollyShorts at the Chinese Theatre in 2014. Superior is Edd Benda’s debut feature film as a Writer, Director, and Producer.


Alex Bell makes up the other half of the Beyond the Porch tandem along with Edd Benda. He is a Seattle native that developed a passion for outdoor photography while residing in the picturesque Northwest. He brought his talents to the USC School of Cinematic Arts where he honed his craft as a Director of Photography. While at USC, Alex completed several projects across the entire spectrum of filmmaking and familiarized himself well with each production department. Since graduating, Alex has traveled the world filming with Josiah Venture and the Salvation Army Vision Network, who have led him to Eastern Europe, Africa, and most recently documenting relief efforts in Nepal. Superior is Alex’s feature film debut as a Producer and Director of Photography.

Hailing from the frozen tundra of West Salem, Wisconsin, Stephen Helstad is an alumni of the University of Southern California (USC), where he majored in Film & Television Production. Stephen has produced the short film “Campbell’s”, which will make its premiere at the 2015 IFS Film Festival , and the narrative feature Superior , which makes its world premiere at the 2015 Dances With Films festival. Stephen currently works as the assistant to the CEO at Revelations Entertainment.


Jeff Tinsley composes music for film, television, and video games. He is also constantly in demand as an orchestrator. Jeff graduated in 2012 from the prestigious USC Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television Program, and since then has begun to demonstrate his fresh and unique voice in the world of media music. Jeff’s most notable scores include Superior (2015), “Send Me to Heaven” (2012), and “The Hipster Werewolf” (2012). As an orchestrator, he is best known for his work on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “Da Vinci’s Demons”, and “The Games Maker”.



Monique Thomas is an LA based Production Designer and Costumer. A graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, she majored in Film and Television Production with a minor in Screenwriting. Early in her study at USC, she began working in the art department on various student projects and hasn’t turned back. She views the set as an extension of the story. Everything, from the color palette to the layout of the space, must harken back to and reinforce the story and its characters. Monique’s unique aesthetic and attention to detail has evolved from years of traveling Europe with her creative and eccentric family.

Recent credits also include Production Designer and Costumer on the psychological horror The House on Pine Street and Production Designer on the James Franco produced web series, “Ultimate Evil.”



Nick Johnson is a Los Angeles-based video editor. Originally from St. Louis, he graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where he met the rest of the Superior crew. Since graduating, he’s served as an editor on a variety of film, TV, and web projects, in addition to cutting trailers, primarily for sales teams in international markets. When he’s not editing, he’s usually reading, writing, playing wiffle ball, or watching the Cardinals.
